The consistent through-line of my 30-year career, either as an ad agency executive, company CMO, or non-profit Board-level advisor, is my ability to see clarity and truth in the inevitable noise of the day to day operations of a business or organization. Connecting transformational insights to operational strategies that lead to bigger ideas and better results is the work I am most passionate about and proud of.
My first ten-years of work experience were spent with Ogilvy & Mather and DDB advertising agencies where I honed my foundational skills in branding, creative, production, and client management. This sturdy foundation gave me the confidence to pursue a personal dream to start an agency of my own.
In 2001 I took the leap and co-founded Fathom Communications with a singular mission of helping companies create deeper connections with their customers. My inspiration for launching Fathom was based on a unique collaboration model that I had architected with other Omnicom Group agencies while a senior leader at DDB, and which ultimately culminated in an equity partnership agreement between Fathom and Omnicom that spanned nearly two decades. As agency CEO, I helped lead Fathom's growth to three offices, over 70 employees, and a diverse client roster that included companies like AutoZone, ExxonMobil, Hasbro, FiatChrysler, LG, NBC Universal, PepsiCo, and Washington Mutual. Among these clients, and many others along the way, Fathom garnered a reputation for being able to rise above the limitations of campaign- and channel-thinking and consistently lead with insights and ideas with the power to transform a business.
After nearly 30-years working in the agency industry, in 2019 I made the decision to pivot and pursue a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead a medical device company's transition from research and development to product commercialization and, in so doing, significantly advancing the company's marketplace mission of reducing brain injuries in sports and the military. As its first CMO, I led the launch of the company's transformational Q-Collar product in Canada and then in the U.S. upon receiving FDA-Clearance.
In parallel to my professional journey, I became personally passionate about introducing new models of innovation and competition into our political systems. In 2017, I co-founded the Serve America Movement (SAM), a start-up political party committed to representing the interests of the majority of Americans who reject political extremism. As a member of the group's Board of Directors, I actively supported SAM’s 2022 merger with two leading democracy-reform groups and served as the interim CMO of the newly formed entity, now called the Forward Party.
Today, through my new venture called WPZG Advisory, I am drawing on my combined experiences as an agency leader, client CMO, and political gatecrasher to help organizations re-imagine their strategies to lead and succeed in this new and complex world in which we now operate.
